Memories of Bingo
Bingo was adopted from a rescue group in Connecticut in August of 2003. His former owner had gone into a nursing home, and he and 2 other dogs had been left outside, to the elements, for 3 months. He was a shy, nervous little guy, terrified of being outside and afraid of everyone. His fellow rescued sheltie, Sampson, showed him how to enjoy being a dog though, the joy of sniffing grass and snowbanks, and how to appreciate walks along the river and glimpses of darting squirrels. After Sampson passed away, Figaro, another rescued sheltie eventually came to be Bingo's companion. Bingo loved to bark and play with Figgy, and compete for the comfiest spot to snooze in the canoe. When Figaro died suddenly on Easter Monday, 2007, Bingo became an only dog. After being diagnosed with kidney failure in July 2006, four days in the hospital on IV fluids had helped him recover and gave him another year and a half of happy life with special attention, and more camping and canoeing trips. A sound-sensitive dog, Bingo barked at everything, but particularly the phone, the pepper grinder, and electric toothbrush. When he became ill again in early February 2008, he bravely endured 5 days of hospitalization, but to no avail. He never bounced back and became weaker and sicker, his body shutting down from the late stages of renal disease. On Friday, February 22, 2008, I took him to the vet to allow him to have a peaceful death and an end to his suffering.

Bingo the amazing doggie with personality, I will miss you forever. Be at peace now, and play with Figaro, Sampson, and Gracey at Rainbow Bridge.
