Memories of Chewie
Chewie's middle name was mischief. Forbidden things were her specialty! She destroyed Daddy's "state-of-the-art" speakers with very little chagrin. She was the star attraction at the slumber parties. And her sweet tooth never failed - she was a pro at unwrapping those kisses - or turtles - or whatever! And there was NO place beyond her cunning!!! She drove us crazy - but she gave us love and devotion and we miss her optimism. Everything would always be all right with Chewie - for tomorrow was always another day.

THE LITTLE DOG ANGEL

High up in the courts of Heaven today
A little dog-angel waits
With the other dogs she will not play
But she sits alone at the Gates:
For I know my Mistress will come, says she
And when she comes, will call for me.
And her Mistress far down on the earth below,
As she sits in her easy chair
Forgets sometimes, and she whistles low
For the dog that is not there;
And the little dog-angel cocks her ears
And dreams that her Mistress's call she hears.
And I know when at length her Mistress waits
Outside in the dark and cold
For the hand of Death to open the gates
That lead to the Courts of Gold,
The little dog-angel's eager bark
Will comfort her soul while she's still in the dark.

January 2013
Another year has passed - and another year of holidays with your ornaments and pictures that are now in the corner cabinet in the living room. There is still some chocolate left from Christmas and I am gaining weight! But I think of you every time I eat a candy and remember how you SO loved chocolate! You always did walk to the beat of a different drum - I guess in more ways than one! You are in our thoughts often and you shall always live on in our hearts! XXOO - Mummie

Another year and you were with us at Christmas and New Years - your ornaments and Christmas pictures remain prominent. Shall always treasure your first haircut! And always treasure memories of you - the chocolate was safe again this year! But, oh, how much we would have loved watching you sneak goodies from the candy bowl! Your baby sis Sophie now has a cataract ... time marches on and we all age, hmm? Still miss you and think of you often. And still look forward to seeing you again when the time comes. Love you SO much. Hugs & kisses - Mummie.

9/11/2009 Chewie - You are in our thoughts a lot! I keep your picture (along with Chippie's) in my curio cabinet along with your Christmas ornaments as well as some of your prettier scarves. I think of you everyday - and still miss you. I recently scanned & enlarged your picture that has been on the fridge for years - and will remain there as long as I draw breath! Miss you something fierce - and know we will be together again! Love ya - Mummie
12/31/08 Hi, Baby Chewie! It will soon be a new year -- and memories of you keep you alive in our hearts. I still don't keep a candy dish on the dining room or den tables since you taught us that tables are just too EASILY accessible. Sophie learned from you just how easy it is to get what one wants from ANY table!!! However, no one else has anything like your sweet tooth!!! Every time I eat a chocolate, I think of you! I posted a note to your sister today -- and I can say the same for you. There will never be another you -- our little doggie angel. I'm pretty sure you are playing and romping -- but I know you'll stop for me or Daddy when that day comes. We really do miss you. You brought more pleasure and joy to our lives than you'll ever know. Although there is an empty place in our home on earth where you once "rambled" (you were VERY good at roaming about and sniffing at the air at some pleasant scent or another!), your unconditional love and devotion never leaves any space untouched. We are so happy you no longer are suffering! Happy New Year -- until we meet again! Hugs & kisses - Mummie

9/13/08 Chewie - Am visiting today and thinking of you. I told your sister about the new addition to our home - a kitten named Stormy who arrived with tropical storm Hannah. She plays with Sophie. We found some baby squirrels who fell from their nest and took them to Dr. Ken since one of them was injured. He is looking after them well - just as he did you. I hope you have found lots of forbidden chocolate at Rainbow Bridge!!! Every time I eat a Hershey's kiss, I think of you! I miss you so, think of you daily - and look forward to the day we are reunited! Love you SO much!!! Hugs & kisses - Mummie
4/13/08 Chewie - It's hard to believe it's been a year since you left us to play at RB. We still miss you - and your unique personality. I'm sure you are enjoying those angel wings and having a wonderful time surprising others with some prank or another!!! Your favorite azalea bush is blooming - and I am going to have to learn a bit more about gardening so it will bloom as beautifully as it did for you - but each bloom you send is a kiss from you - and we send each one back to you! You are in our hearts and we miss you and love you and know you are happy with your sister now. Until that day we meet again - hugs and kisses - Mummie

A.A. Milne once wrote a poem called "Puppy and I' - and the last verse is YOU - I had to put it here:
"...I met a Puppy as I went walking;
We got talking,
Puppy and I.
"Where are you going this nice fine day?"
(I said to Puppy as [she] went by).
"Up in the hills to roll and play."
"I'll come with you, Puppy," said I."
Have fun rolling and playing in the hills and meadows with Chippie. I look forward to the day I can join you. Hugs & kisses - Mummie

1/18/08 -Found this and thought of you - with love, Mummie
OLD DOGS DO NOT DIE
We have a secret, you and I,
That no one else shall know,
For who, but I can see you lie,
Each night, in fire-glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
Before we go to bed,
And feel the living warmth of you
And touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths,
And see, ahead of me,
Your small form racing with the wind,
So young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
In every brook I pass.
And, when I call, no one but I
Can see the bending grass.

Chewie - I know I don't have to tell you that Chippie joined you late last night. I had told her earlier that I knew you were at the Rainbow Bridge and that she didn't need to stay and watch over me any longer. Her heart was so big, but so very weak. Each day was such a chore for her. The last thing I said to her was "It's okay, Baby." And she left us to be with you. I am so glad you are together - and I know that must have been a joyous reunion - she has missed you so!! Just remember that you are my babies, I love you both and miss you sorely and look forward to the day when we can all be together again! Hugs, kisses & prayer forever - Mummie

12/17/07 - You have a new niece! Sissie Melanie has had a baby girl - Maggie Mae. She is darling. I know you are rejoicing for her at Rainbow's Bridge. I know Maggie would love knowing you - and she will one day - I promise.
