Memories of Jewel
We did not rescue Jewel. She rescued us.
We adopted Jewel from a Rescue in San Antonio in which I was a volunteer. Jewel had already been a "throw away" dog twice. She was dumped at a shelter in Las Vegas; adopted; and then dumped at the city shelter in San Antonio. Her owners requested that Jewel be euthanized because she was aggressive towards humans. Luckily, the Rescue takes such info with a grain of salt when no specific incident is given/proven.

The Rescue learned that indeed, Jewel was a grouchy girl before being surrendered. Why? Because she was tied outside in the Texas sun and had almost no hair due to flea allergies. She was teased and abused by kids in the trailer park where she lived. Jewel had every right to send growling warning signals to her tormenters.

I fostered Jewel straight from the shelter. What a sweet girl!!!!! And a very slobbery girl for sure!!! A true English Mastiff😁
After 2 months of adoption events, Jewel was still in foster. Mostly because potential adopters said she slobbered too much. Poor people. They don't know the chance they missed to parent such a sweet girl. My husband and I decided that more adoption events would be too much for her during the Texas summer, so we adopted her ourselves !!!!! That was 4 years ago.

Jewel was a very important part of our family. She was the leader of our dog pack and many times our leader. Lol. Unfortunately, as many giant breeds do, she had hip dysplasia. She deteriorated very quickly over the past year, to the point she could barely get off of the floor. We decided that Rainbow Bridge should be her new home.

We miss you Big Baby Girl and will always love you
