Memories of Pixie
Dear Pixie, I always felt like I failed you. It is no secret that you were a difficult girl.

You somehow survived awful abuse from a horrible man. That man went to jail because of what he did to you and another poor dog, but I am sure it was not enough punishment. I curse him for what he did to you and how he robbed joy from your life. You were never free from the ghosts of your former abusive life. I am so very sorry if I failed to make you forget the awful life you had before. We tried.

You were held nine months at a shelter until the trial of your abuser was over. You were not adoptable and no rescue came for you. I think I was your only chance out or you would have been put to sleep, never knowing what a real family was. How could I let that happen?

The second day you were with us, you attacked poor ancient Spriddles, when she went for a drink of water. I almost sent you back to Ohio that day, but I made a commitment and I was not going to break it. From then on, you fought with so many dogs that we finally had to separate you, switching you with the other dogs for family time or keeping you behind gates. I hated it, but I kept telling myself that your life was far better now than it had been before.

Life could frighten you and I am so sorry for that. A belt, a leash, a loud noise would send you cowering. It took an entire year of coaxing until you would lay next to me. It was so wonderful to see you when you did finally play and I am glad that you got along with Fiona, Bijou and Max, so you could enjoy toys and bones with them. You were so cute and silly when you played. Steffy made sure you had a good play session every morning. I know you were thankful to have a warm bed and plenty of food! Later in life, when Max refused to go upstairs and you couldn't do the stairs anymore, I was thankful that you and Max could sleep together in the kitchen. When precious Max left for the Rainbow Bridge, you went rapidly downhill, joining him less than three weeks later. You have a buddy up there with you now. Please, beautiful dark eyed girl, don't fight with Riley, Spriddles and Miss Violet. I hope you have found the peace that you needed. We love you and miss you, always and forever.......until we meet again, special girl.

Please also visit Arlo, Dexter, Ditto, Gabriel, Maxfield, Miss Violet, Moey, Radar, Reggie, Riley and Spriddles.
