Memories of Asus
| One day, someone plucked a feral kitten from her colony and tried to 'socialize' her into a house cat. This was not a good idea. Seeing that this feral kitty, at the 'old' age of well past 10 weeks, was not going to cooperate, she was dumped at an animal shelter in Sonoma. Tony and Shoshanna named her Asus and spent the time and energy to 'de-feralize' Asus so the shelter could place her in a loving home. Carole and I picked up the litter Asus was part of as one of our many fostering litters; some all socialized, many still feral, but loving all the same. Asus was one of six in this litter. For reasons unknown, this shy little tabby decided living at Chez Huygen was better than a mud puddle somewhere in the country. She chose to stay with us. Unfortunately, when one fosters stray or abandoned kittens, you never know their complete background; at the age of 2 Asus was diagnosed with a nasty bacterial ailment that has no known cure. We suspect her entire litter may have had the same infection. Asus lived well past her normal feral lifetime with us -- we will miss her and love her forever. We will also continue to rescue and foster kittens like her, as she deserved a better chance at finding a loving, warm home to match her personality. Rest in Peace Asus, we will meet again on the Rainbow Bridge - Carole & Gary, "Callie" (RIP), Abbie, Rhonda, Tina, Tiddles, Tabby, Ella, Piper, Bizzi, Simon & Clover |
