Memories of Bailey
Bailey Woltemath passed from this world early in the morning on January 25,
2009. As was her nature, she left on her own terms, going to sleep in the
evening and quietly passing away in her sleep. She was 13 human years old about 106 of her years. I know that by now she has been reunited with Ace, the father of her puppies, and her sons and daughters that preceded her to the next world, Beau and Zoë along with all the other Woltemath dogs and cats from years past.

You are Bailey's friends, so you know full well that she was my best friend and
partner from my earliest days in the Roaring Fork Valley. Her incredible
strength and spirit kept her going through broken bones, heart surgery, and
chronic arthritis. She remained in high spirits to the end and always brought
happiness to everyone she was around, whether she was staying with my parents in Denver or with me at work.

Bailey was best known for doing things her own way, and that always included
being by my side. She grew up living at the fish ponds near Carbondale, but
spent many happy days at Deep Creek Ranch, where she reluctantly shared elk legs with whichever other family dogs were there, especially her buddy Tippet
.

She was also known for her marauding on the Snowmass Mall, where even a
four-year old's slice of pizza was fair game, and was only one stop on her route
to find free food and bring joy to those who fed her. Somewhere along the way,
she even learned to tolerate cats and counted Caddis as one of her closest
friends.

I have never doubted that dogs have souls, so while I tearfully mourn her
passing, I will cherish 13 years full of incredible memories and count myself as
the luckiest person in the world to have known her. Bailey's spirit will always
be my daily companion and I know that somewhere down the line I'll see her again and when that happens, we won't ever have to say good-bye again.
