Memories of Diamond

I always considered you my "Queen Diamond." You even walked proud like a panther showing off the white diamond on your chest. You protected your older brother from other cats. You loved to catch birds and fetch those chewy eyeballs you liked so much. You would wake me in the morning scratching, biting, and licking me until you were fed. Yet you had a gentle side that many people came to enjoy. You were a healer and were there to help ease my pains with your purrs and that gentle paw you would place on my hand letting me know everything was okay. When I found out you had cancer, it broke my heart to know that after 13 years I would have to let you go. It took me a few months to come to terms with it. I decided to let you go with pride and dignity as you would have wanted. As I saw your body go lifeless, I smiled with a tear in my eye. I knew you were now in a better place, free from pain and strolling around proud as you always were to the end.
