Memories of DODI
When I saw Dodi at the Humane Society almost 14 years ago, he was all alone in a cage that read: "Hi! My name is Buddy. I need lots of love and attention." I got him out to see him and he crawled right on my neck under my hair and I knew we were meant to be. There were times when I didn't think we would make it. When I lost my job and Dodi had to live with me in my car for 3 months. When he ran away from home and it took me weeks to find him. When he got out and was attacked by another cat and almost died so many years ago. Dodi had a really big heart and it was strong and got him through the bad times with me. That same big beautiful heart just got too big for his little body and he couldn't hold on to it anymore. It was enlarged and his lungs were filling with fluids and he was struggling to breathe. Almost 14 years since I first laid eyes on Dodi, we spent our remaining moments together as his gigantic heart was stopped so that he could move on to a better place where he would be healthy and happy. As I write this it has only been a few hours since I parted with him and the tears keep coming, but I don't regret my decision to give him peace. He was my anchor through so many storms and I will be forever grateful for the time I was able to spend with him. He was my angel on Earth.
