Memories of Dorkie
|
God plopped you down on our doorstep 12 years ago, a complete mess. The vet said you had recently given birth, though we never knew what happened to your puppies. He guessed your age to be about 2, so we never really knew your birthday. But, you were the best dog I could have ever wished for. You stole my heart with your brown eyes, your gentle quiet ways, and your "smile". Every day I looked forward to holding you, all the cares of the world would melt away. You were always so eager to play, and loved to be "underfoot". You had the funniest snorting "snork" sound you would make when you got excited. Everyone that met you knew how special you were. You got so sick so fast, it hurt my heart to see you suffering. I would try to feed you and you would turn your head. I wouldn't give up on you, hand feeding you baby food and water every night, just to get something in you. Eventually, I knew it was time, I made the appointment. I talked with you that day and told you of my plans, and told you that it was OK if you wanted to go on your own, earlier, I told you not to be afraid. That whole week was the longest week ever, never loosing hope that you might get better, but deep inside knowing that you wouldn't. In the end, you did not wait for your appointment, but you did wait for me. I came home from work and you died in my arms peacefully, you waited for me to tell you it was OK. I could feel the exact moment you passed, you looked up at me. I miss you terribly, and I will always hold dear in my heart the fact that "you waited for me". My heart aches for you every day, and I know that one of these days I'll hold you again.
Love forever,
your Mommy
P.S. In the meantime, try not to trip anyone up there by being "underfoot".
