Memories of Gypsy Baker
|
Gypsy was a beautiful Bully. She had a heart of gold. She was only with us for 2 1/2 years, but it was well worth the short time. She gave us no choice to love her whole-heartedly. She was bright, energetic and ever so loving. We could not let her outside in the mornings, or afternoons without her giving us kisses first. She was such a kissey girl! Gypsy had unique markings on her which made her such a beautiful and unique doggie. We would call her Ying Yang or our Brindle Bully. We would always tell her how beautiful she was. And yes...I would sing "She's beautiful - it's true". I would sing it at a high pitch that always made her look. Anyone could say "beautiful" in the room and she would know they were talking about her. Gypsy was not an aggressive dog. We do not think she had a mean or aggressive bone in her body. The other dogs would move in on her chew toy, or dog food and she would let them take it away. She was like "oh well - I will see what else I can find". Gypsy loved her treat ball and playing tug of war. OH YEAH - and there was NO napping when Gypsy wanted to play. She would always walk over and smother us with kisses just as we were falling asleep on the couch, or in the recliner. It was all about Gypsy. Water. Gypsy LOVED water. Daddy and I would spray her with the hose and not only get her soaked, but give her a good work out. The days daddy hosed down the back porch would drive our Gypsy crazy. She would pound against the back door begging to be let out to play with the water. Gypsy was a good girl. She completed a 6 week obedience course, although sometimes you would never know it! She still liked to jump up on our guests who would visit the house and I did have to replace two pairs of sandals, because she seemed to like my shoes more than daddies. Daddy would have a hard time getting her to listen to him when it was time to come in...but when mommy called for her...she came running in. Yes...I did love to tease daddy about that! Gypsy's Baby Boy = Brennan. Gypsy loved Brennan. She jumped at the chance to wake him up in the mornings and got him energized for school. They both weighed about the same amount towards the end, so it was funny to watch them play tug of war. Gypsy would drag Brennan on the floor and he would get her to do the Gator death roll! Brennan picked Gypsy out for us. We were interested in a white bully, but Gypsy gave Brennan some kisses and the rest is history. Gypsy was such a stoic girl. Through her battle with cancer and the leg amputation...she never let the pain show. She was so concerned about pleasing us. We were so concerned with the fact we would have to amputate one of her legs...I think we worried more than she did after the surgery. Gypsy JUMPED into our SUV unassisted the day she came home from her amputation. She was lethargic for maybe a day, but that was too long for Gypsy! She wanted to bounce back and she did. We had to force her to relax and lay down sometimes. The chemo treatments were supposed to be our saving "Gypsy", but they weren't. We were devastated by the news that the cancer had spread into her lungs. We knew our time with Gypsy would be on a countdown clock from that moment on. Gypsy proved the textbooks wrong (per our Veterinary Oncologist). She lived longer than expected given the amount of cancer ravaging her organs. That speaks to the degree of her stubborness. She wanted to stay with us for as long as she could...until she just could not do it any longer. We are so devastated by our loss, but we are SO HAPPY we had her in our lives. She made our days so much brighter and her personality was absolutely the best. It will take us a long time to get over the hurt and anger, but we will always cherish the memories. We love you beautiful girl. 09/19/07: My beautiful Gypsy girl. It has been one week since you went to Rainbows Bridge and we miss you terribly. We came home today to a package from Drs. Winter and LaDue (and staff). We opened it together and discovered they gave us the most wonderful treats we could have hoped for. A great book (Dog Heaven) which all the staff signed and said such wonderful things about you. They also sent a beautiful round plaster imprint of your paw. It looks so perfect...just like you. I put the paw print to my heart, so you could feel how deeply I love you. I know you love me too and Daddy and Brennan (your baby boy). We think about you everyday and see you everyday (your pictures are scattered throughout the house). We love you very much and hope you are being a good girl. 10/12/07: 11/12/07: Two months and it feels like yesterday when we lost you. We think about you every single day baby girl. I sit on the back porch and look over your pond...I see your egret you liked to chase and all the wild birds. The neighbor misses your barking and you being nosey (peeking over the fence). My heart still has an empty place in it. 09/24/08: My pretty Gypsy girl. I cannot believe a year has passed since you went to Rainbow Bridge. There is not a day that goes by when we do not think of you. We love you very much and look forward to seeing you soon. |
