Memories of Greta
| I adopted Greta at age 8--they guess. She was a mama at a puppy mill and when she could have no more litters, they dumped her at the pound. I adopted her from a rescue group and tried to give her the best years of her life ever. So spoiled--she even frightened our 80 pound greyhound. The way she tore out of the bathroom to get to her food bowl--the way she always wanted a lap to lay on. I will never forget how you claimed the Lazy-Boy chair. Or the day that you somehow got the trash down and ate an entire cake--when I got home, your stomach was so huge you couldn't even stand up. You and food. I tell ya. How about the first time you went to the Miller's house and you somehow got open the pantry door AND the tupperware container that held their dog's food. A 10 pound Houdini if there was food involved. Or the time Kris stayed with you and when she walked out of the bathroom--there you were looking up at her with the sausage patty from her McDonald's breakfast sandwich hanging out of your mouth. You were always able to get any blanket to cover you completely to where only your little head would pop out. When we adopted Mex--an 80 pound Greyhound, I was worried with how you would deal with it since I had only had you for so many years. You were so used to having your own way all the time. The first time Mex tried to come see my while you were on my lap--you showed your teeth at him. A 10 pound dachshund scaring off an 80 pound Greyhound. And Mex is now copying you. He learned from you to show his teeth--but he has no idea when exactly to do it. So, unlike you--who showed teeth to scare other animals off--Mex now shows his teeth when he's happy to see people. Very odd--part of your legacy. :) She just wanted to be with you--so simple, so loving and so missed. I hope to somehow get peace about the decision to let you leave. I'm not sure if I will see you again--but I have to hope so. The idea of not seeing you is almost too much to think about. |
