Harry's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Harry

If you have participated in Lollypop Farm's popular Barktober Fest & Walk for the Animals in the past 5 years, you may have wondered how "Harry" from Craft Company No. 6 came to be known as the event's "Spokesdog". You have probably seen "Harry" leading a large team of walkers at the event and might have a picture of him on one of your Barktober Fest t-shirts.

Lynn Allinger and Gary Stam, owners of Craft Company No. 6 welcomed "Harry" into their family in 1997 after losing their Corgi mix "Chester". Their remaining dog, a Jack Russell named "Sally" was lonely and in need of a new companion. "When Harry met Sally", it was not love at first sight. "Sally" ignored "Harry" for 3 days. Soon after, they became the best of friends and partners in crime. Their hobbies included ripping toys apart, shredding toilet paper rolls, playing tug of war, and begging for treats. Years later, when "Sally" passed away, it was "Harry's" turn to be lonely. He was soon introduced to a Corgi/Jack Russell mix named "Marge" and they became inseparable.

"Harry", along with his pal "Marge", delighted many visitors to the store on University Avenue in Rochester, NY. "Harry" acted as the greeter and accepted belly rubs from all who couldn't resist. Many customers couldn't help but laugh at the sight of "Harry" sitting in the front window of the store with "Marge" sleeping on his back.

Because "Harry" was such a lucky dog in that he was welcomed into a loving family as a puppy, Lynn and Gary were inspired to have him help other animals who were not so fortunate. "Harry" organized a team of walkers each year and proudly led them in the Barktober Fest Walk. The team generated thousands of dollars over the years to help the animals at Lollypop Farm. "Harry" even won a few of the event's talent contests with his lovely singing voice.

"Harry" passed away in January after a brief illness. He touched the lives of many area residents. One couple, who recently moved to North Carolina, sent a donation to the Humane Society in "Harry's" memory and mentioned that they fell in love with Harry and now have an adopted Basset Hound of their own. The Allinger/Stam family was also pleased to welcome another Basset, "Buddy Ray" into their lives recently. "Buddy Ray" came to them from the Ozark Mountain Basset Rescue in Arkansas. "Harry" may have been small in stature but he left a huge mark on all who met him.
