Memories of Maggie

Maggie had no enemies - except those in UPS trucks or Mail trucks. I never knew just why she disliked uniforms. She came to us from the SPCA in 2001 - at age 1 and had been returned twice to the SPCA - so she truly was a rescue animal. She was WILD - and I mean WILD. Over time she calmed down, was always 'my' dog - while my husband was alive and Misty was his. Misty passed in August of 2004 and Maggie became my protector, my constant companion, and my alarm clock. I am totally deaf - and she would wake me in the morning to go to work. She had a different bark to alert me to friend or foe at the door. And in recent years, after I retired, she enjoyed having me around more. We would sit on the patio in the morning, go for walks, and go for rides. She love that the best. And when friends came - she hoped in the recliner so they could pet her without bending down. Under the table was her favorite place to nap when I worked on the computer or read the paper.

I already miss her so much - My heart aches. THe last days were painful - watching her suffer -so was thankful that the Vet had an option. Go in Peace little girl - you were the bestest one of all. Give Jim a kiss from me - and remind Misty, Heidi and Sable to save a place for mom - who will see you all someday.

June 25, For some reason I am missing you more today than ever. Partly because some friends stopped by and were looking for you - and partly because I have had (finally) some down time - I am sitting here crying so hard I can not see the screen. Last night I saw Marley and me on TV - that was a mistake - since it reminded me of what we went through those last days.

Someday little girl, Someday.
