Memories of Muffin
|
I remember like it was just yesterday that Muffin became a member of our family. From day one, he was a joy to be around. Over the years, he trained us very well and gave us lots and lots of love. I remember when he would have his "bischon buzz". He would all of a sudden, run like the wind and give his growl. We loved watching him run as his lovely ears would be flying backwards and his fluffy tail just waving. He was really a very well behaved dog (really he was a person in a fur coat he said.) Muffin was 6 months older than our granddaughter Samantha and they were inseparable. He was good with children and people. We do a lot of traveling and Muffin went everywhere with us. He has been in Mexico, east coast, west coast, north and south. He was a good passenger and everyone knows Muffin. Muffin had his own personal groomer in Oklahoma City named Tammy. He really loved her and actually would just stand while she would be cutting him and he would fall asleep. He would wake up once in awhile and give her a kiss. He also loved his vet, Dr. Wendy Bray and she kind of loved him too. He had a way to worm his way into your heart. He was doing fine up until 2 years ago and he suddenly went blind. He then gained up to 29 pounds and the vet did not know what it was. We took Muffin to an Internist and found that he had liver problems, sludge in his gallbladder and problem with his adrenal glands. She put him on medications and he was doing better. Dr. Bray put Muffin on a high fiber diet and he went back to his normal weight in about one year. He was doing okay other than being blind and we could handle that and he really did well. He knew his way around the house and motor home and knew commands of left, right, up or down. On this trip to South Texas he started going downhill. He would really sleep deeply and started having accidents. On December 15, 2008, he could not stand and when he did he was very unsteady and that is when we knew it was time. We hated letting him go but we did not want him suffering. During his younger lifetime, we took Muffin to Nebraska to sire a female Bischon owned by our close friends. He sired three lovely bischons. Two males and one female. One male looks just like our Muffin and at age 4 years, he went blind and the other two lead him around. As of today there are two of his boys living. As I mentioned above, Muffin is 6 months older than our granddaughter. She loves Muffin so much and when she was only 5 years old she told her mother that when she left home, she was taking Muffin with her. Her Mom said "what about Grandma & Grandpa?" She said they can get another Muffin. We really hated to tell her about Muffin. Her dad said she cried all night. |
