O, Brave Little One, in my heart forever/
Our souls linked, never to be apart.
You were the most regal of cats, true to your heritage,
Marching to your own drummer, head and tail held high...
the essence of dignity.
But your playful side was ever on call! Always ready to tackle a play mouse...or a real one...
or leap after a dangling feather on a string.!
And, of course, you were the quintessential athlete,
With the balance and agility of a tight-rope walker,
the strength of a pole-vaulter,
and the speed of a champion sprinter.
All of this...without making a sound!
Sounds, however, you could and did make
As you talked to me, employing your extensive vocabulary,
Successfully conveying your thoughts and emotions
to my wonder and delight.
We had many conversations, you and I,
and not all of them aloud.
Perhaps the silent ones were the best ones.
You could speak volumes with your eyes...and your tail..
But most of all, with your eyes...
Those spectacular eyes...luminous, intelligent, inquisitive, changeable, mysterious...mirror of your soul.
You and I taught each other about love and trust,
and about the many ways we are alike.
Although our minds perceived the world in different ways...
I spoke only English, and you spoke only "cat".../
we understood each other perfectly.
I am sorry we could not have had more years together here on earth...
but thirteen is quite alot.
So, farewell, my Little One,
I miss your physical presence so very much, but our souls shall
be together always.
Love, Your Mom, Sally
