Ollie's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Ollie

Ollie was a devoted friend who never forgot that he was a dog. He was a tough little 21 pound terrier who thought he was a BIG dog. He loved to meet people and say hello. He loved to chase squirrels and chipmunks and moles and mice. He was largely unsuccessful at this pastime but he never gave up trying. His arch enemy was the skunk. He seemed to meet one every year of his long life, except the last one. He didn't like bikes or skateboards or scooters or vacuums. But he did like many things. He loved his toy basket, his bed, his blanket, his drying off "after a rainy walk" towel, his daily walk to the office to get his cookie, his crunchy dog snacks, and me, his Mom. He was always very gentle with his toys, never destroying them or disembowling them to remove their squeakers. His time with his toys was spent licking them all over, never biting them. He was an unconditional friend who got me thru some of my darkest moments, always meeting me at the door with a wagging tail and a smile - yes it was a smile - you could tell.

I will love him forever. I will miss him forever. And I will remember him forever. His spirit lives on in my heart. As I held him at the end I told him what a good dog he was and how much he was loved. I told him it was alright to go because he was about to discover a beautiful place. His passing was peaceful and without pain, but gut-wrenching anyway. You can never prepare yourself. But I held him and stroked him and wrapped him up in his favorite blanket with his favorite toy in his arms. Attached to his collor was a heart-shaped blinking light, his nightime safety flasher (AKA: Low Landing Gear). I turned it on and asked the staff if they could leave it on until the battery ran out. Just a little light to help him find his way.....

To my Ollie, my BEST BOY: fly high with the angels my buddy. For every day spent on earth is but a second spent in heaven. I've got about 40 years left on earth, which equals less than 60 minutes in heaven. I'll see you in an hour Buddy. I'll see you in an hour.

We're coming up on your one year anniversary in Heaven Buddy and I still miss you. I have a new companion now and she is beautiful. But she will never be you Ollie. She'll never be you.
