Memories of Poki
|
Poki July 8, 1997 - June 14, 2010 Remembering Poki I met you when you were a little puppy, but not my puppy yet. You sat on my desk every day at work. When you got too big to come to the office, your owner kept you at home. I missed you and even babysat you once when they went on vacation. They came back and decided they were not "dog people" and so you joined me, "Dad", Pickle & Girl. What a blessing for us. You became a great playmate for Pickle. And, my best buddy. You followed me everywhere, always underfoot and always willing to snuggle, especially on a blanket! But, you would also snuggle on the tops of pillows! You loved to sunbathe and once I found you on the top of the lanai table, catching the last bit of the sun's rays! I still don't know how you got up there! Every time I put a clean blanket in your bed, you would jump right in! When Wyatt came along, you quickly became his protector. Wherever Wyatt was, you were very near. Most of Wyatt's baby pictures have you in the background! You never had an unkind action toward him or anyone -- as evidenced by one picture where Wyatt as a baby is pulling your ear and you are sitting calming allowing it. Everyone loved you. And, while you were a little dog, you never hesitated to "wrestle" with the Girls or let them know if they were in a spot reserved for you -- mainly next to me on the couch! Your bark was that of a big dog and you always made us laugh with your walrus impression! You gave me little scares, too -- we found out your little body was allergic to insect bites and had several late night trips to Dr. Darin for emergency treatment. As you got older, you were diagnosed with an enlarged heart -- a common condition for your breed. We tried many types of medicines for several years and you always seemed to re-bound, so much so, one would never have guessed just how bad your condition did become. But, very surprising to us, your body gave out very quickly at the end and in the space of one afternoon, we knew it was time to give you a release from this struggle, as much as I knew we were all going to miss you. Dad took you to Dr. Darin and I quickly followed. You never liked going to see him -- I guess with good reason -- and so you were shaking when I got there but when I held you, you seemed comforted and that comforted me, too. As with your "brother" Pickle and your "sister" Annie, it was with very heavy hearts that "Dad" and I said we had to let you go. With "Dad" present, I looked in your eyes while you gained release from your suffering very peacefully. We were happy to have you with us for almost 13 years. I know Annie and Pickle will be waiting for you over that Rainbow Bridge and you will play together to your now "good-as -new" heart's content. Make sure you share! You were my shadow and I will always look out for you. You were deeply loved and will be forever missed. "Dad", "Mom", Wyatt, Girl& Roxie
