Welcome to Rocket's Rainbow Residency

Rocket's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Rocket

Rocket's mother was "saved" by a vet along with her litter. Rocket was in turned "saved" by his Daddy, Doug, because the vet felt Rocket was the least likely kitten to be adopted. Rocket was a fitting name for him because he became air borne chasing his toys across the room. Rocket was Doug's "homey" until Doug and Lois married in 1993. Rocket had a new mother and was all set. Then we moved him to Arizona - just didn't like the travel. But more travel was on the horizon. He was once again uprooted to Pittsburgh, then his final home in Denver. Two dogs were added to the family. Rocket managed to tolerate Buster and Walker but showed his rebellious side by refusing to urinate in his litter box. Rocket was very attentive to Buster last winter when he was so sick with his diabetes. We were touched at how Rocket would lay next to Buster when he was so sick.
Rocket's favorite time of day was when his Daddy came home from work. He'd go to the door to greet him along with our dogs. Rocket hardly left Daddy's side every evening. Rocket sat on the couch with Daddy and up until the last month of his life, he'd always climb in bed and cuddle with Daddy.
Rocket was definitely slowing down the past few months and I knew on Tuesday evening that we were down to the final few hours with Rocket. Rocket had been crying in pain several times throughout the evening. Daddy had been flying all day and got home late. When Daddy got home I was sitting on the floor with Rocket and had said "good bye" and told him it was OK to go to sleep when Daddy gets home. I knew Rocket was waiting for Daddy to get home before he left us. Daddy wrapped Rocket in a towel and they laid on the couch together that last night. Rocket got down and went into a corner to die. Daddy was sitting there petting him with assurance that it was OK to leave. Rocket passed at 8am, May 6. It's been sad without Rocket but we are happy for the 18 years.
