Elsa
by Heidi Begley
Elsa "Sprinkles" is an Australian Mini Foxie. It is a breed developed from the Australian Tenterfield Terrier. They are small, short legged, black and white or tri-coloured with brown. They are excellent rat dogs, very affectionate, and love nothing more than sitting on your lap. I had decided to mate Elsa. She was now 3 and half years old and I was so looking forward to her having pups. I wanted my son to experience this special event. Through a paper advertisement, I arranged with Dianne who has a male Mini Foxie named Boo. We took Elsa to Dianne's house on the Wednesday afternoon. When we arrived Elsa was so excited to meet Boo. After a cup of tea and a lovely chat with Dianne and her partner, we decided to leave. By the time I was ready to go Elsa and Boo were already mating. I felt nervous leaving her but I knew it wasn't for long. The next morning I phoned dianne and she said everything was fine and they had mated again that morning. dianne phoned me again that afternoon to see if I wanted to pick her up but I couldnt' get away. So arranged for the next morning. I phoned Dianne on Friday morning and told her that I would be leaving my home aboaut 10 in the morning to collect her. I went to the Gym and was very upset whilst I was there but couldn't understand why. When i got home we immediatley started to get ready to collect Elsa. My husband already had the car started when the phone rang. Dianne had the dreadful news that Elsa and Boo had escaped out of the yard. Elsa was run over by a car and died instantly. I remember screaming and screaming. My husband and I were in tears and sobbing uncontrollably. Apparently Elsa had only just been sitting on Dianne's partners lap for a cuddle. He went upstairs to see Dianne as she is battling Breast Cancer. The dogs then got out of the yard and a neighbour saw them but couldn't get them off the road in time. When my husband came home with Elsa I cuddled her as long as I could. i walked her around every part of the house and garden. Every member of the family held her and cuddled her.The children came home from school early so they could spend time with Elsa. I cleaned her body, dressed her in her outfit and added flowers from my garden. All too soon I had to lay her in the basket and say our final good bye. Now all I have is wonderful memories and a litle pot of ashes that I talk to. I even pat the pot. I have set up a special area for her with photos and candles and gifts. Mummy loves Elsa! Heidi
