About Isis, my handsome boy
by Tania Cox
I came home from a walk with my black lab-mix Roxy one afternoon and saw Isis sitting in my neighbor's kitchen window. As soon as I saw his face, I knew we were meant to be together. About two weeks later, my neighbor asked me to watch him for a few days. Isis was then known as Elvis. It took a few days, but he got used to Roxy and I. My neighbor returned home and Isis went home. About six weeks later, my landlord came to my door and told me that Isis (Elvis) had been abandoned for about five of those weeks. I panicked, and broke into the apartment. Isis was so scared. Can you imagine being alone and scared for that long? He immediately moved in with us. I gave him a new name for his new life. That was seven years ago. We have had many great times together since. Isis was my handsome boy. I have never been so close to a feline before. He would lay on my chest(and he wasn't light- he weighed almost 30 lbs!)and put his head in the nape of my neck and purr me to sleep. Roxy and Isis would lay in bed next to each other and push me off to the corner sometimes! They were best of friends. On October 1st, 2004, I went next door to watch tv with my neighbor. I was gone for about 30 minutes. His cat jumped on my lap, and as I pet her, I had a dreadful thought- why am I petting his cat, when this could be the last time I ever can pet my Isis? I jumped up and ran home, ashamed of this thought. I opened the door and Roxy jumped on me and lead me hurried to the bedroom. I looked in the corner and saw my handsome boy laying on the floor. I gave him CPR, and tried to revive him, I knew he was still holding on. My neighbor and I jumped in the car and drove immediately to the vet with him. As we were en route, I thanked him for all of his love and companionship. I calmed as I felt his soul entering the rainbows bridge, and prayed for him. When we arrived at the vet, He confirmed the passing. Isis was about 11 years old. He was in perfect health. I could not understand how this happened? WHY?!? The doctor told me he died of a heart attack- sudden death. I was not ready for this. He had the most luscious black and white long fur. The white fur on his underside looked like two hearts connected. His hair on his chin was white, and he was pure black every where else. His eyes were a radiant green/yellow. They were so huge and beautiful. He was very exotic. He loved to talk to you. He was EXTREMELY vocal. Everytime I talked to him, he would talk back, as if he were answering me. He would wait outside of the shower for me every day. He liked to jump into the tub when I was finished. Once I had filled the tub for a bath. I guess he thought I was finished, and jumped in as usual. He screeched and jumped up about three feet and outta the tub! What a sight. I laughed for at least 30 minutes! I miss my handsome little kittyface. I know you are resting well with all the fresh catnip and grass you can eat. Roxy and I miss you dearly. Thank you for all your love and friendship. Until we meet again at the bridge, know that you are in my heart forever. Peace be with you throughout eternity, my handsome boy. I LOVE YOU ISIS. "meow meow kitty-face".
