I Remember
by Kristin Gates
...I remember you fitting in the palm of my hand, How scared you were on your first day in your new home,I did understand. ...I remember breathing to the rythm of your musical beating heart as you would sleep, Curled up in your tiny fleece bed, sometimes I would wake in the night to take a peek. ...In the blink of a child's eye, I watched as you would grow, You turned into the most beautiful kitten, a star in my heart you forever will glow. ...I knew someday my littlest angel you would turn out to be, I put that tearful image away and began to concentrate on you and me. ...I remember how you made me feel so safe and at ease, You have come to mean that much to me. ...The game of hide and seek you and I would always play, The way you would cry when I could not be found, and you lost your way. ...Out of the closet I would jump to give you a scare, You would jump into my arms so happy I was still there. ...Together you and I built our own happy little world for all to see, Lingering in the dark I had no idea what was about to be. ...On a cold winter's morning, I cried whn I had to give you away, I never knew that kind of pain I was feeling untill that sad day. ...I did not get to say my goodbye when from my arms they took you from me, I opened my appartment door and there I cried and dropped on bended knee. ...The loneliness set in and my tears began to fall, I felt the world that we built together break when I saw your favorite bear laying in the middle of the hall. ...To this day I still break down and cry, For now I know that from the begining, I already said my goodbye.
