A Child's Pet
by Katherine Kap
My dad picked you out for me from all of the rest, he said you'd picked our family and that you were the very best. I was so happy to have such a special friend, someone I could play with and keep until the end. We grew up together and I thought you'd never leave, the vets said that you were sick & this I did not believe. Time and again you'd prove them wrong, you continued on and you stayed strong. Then the time came, and you knew it too, how do I say goodbye to you? I stayed with you until the end, happy to be with my special friend. You went without a single cry, now on angel's wings you'll fly. They have a place for cats like you... cats with spirit and strength too. You stayed with me until I was grown, you left when you knew I could go on alone. Now my childhood friend has gone away, but I know in my heart I'll see you again someday. ~Katherine
