i look up at the sky wonder if you can see me i can’t believe i let you go my heart is feeling so empty every time i close my eyes all i can see is your face memories of years gone by that which will never be erased you were always there for me did you even know that to be true? resting your head right on my lap or snuggling in bed, just me and you the house seems so empty and quiet now only traces of you remain no one to greet me at the door no rattle of your chain i want to get back just one more day i’d kiss you from head to toe give you all the love and care that you were always eager to show i’d lay with you and hold you tight take away all of your fears make you feel it will be all right like you did with me through the years but i had to say goodbye the hardest thing i ever had to do please know i didn’t want you to hurt anymore and how much i love and miss you i hope you are feeling better now looking down at us from above hope your legs are good as new hope someone is showering you with love i hope there is a sunny spot for you to lay in hope there are squirrelies and kitty cats galore hope there is a nice big bone for you to chew on and a place right in front of the door i hope there is someone to take you on vacation hope someone can take you for a long walk someone who knows how unique you are someone to understand you when you talk: to say there is someone at the door or to get off the couch out of your spot or to give up some of what's on their plate or that you want to lick the pot when you say you want to go out on the deck to chase a squirrel a bird or a cat or when you swing yourself right into them they know to scratch your back i hope they know you bark a lot but most certainly would never attack and when they throw you a ball or a stick they understand you’ll never bring it back from gary to cha cha cha to grandma kisses and the mailman running into a car to being flagged a “dangerous dog” and getting out the door and running so far sure at times you made us mad but we loved you right from the start so my friend till we meet again you’ll forever be in our hearts
