My Royal Highness
by Rae Neisen
The last time I saw her she lay curled on a warm bed. At the sound of my voice and with my touch, she lifted her head, to purr. Her love gave me comfort as I stroked her and held her fast. I cried knowing too well that this moment would be our last, together. My body shook with sobs as the lethal injection took her life. I prayed she was free of pain and that mine would ease with time, tomorrow. She was my royal highness and I was her loyal subject. Seventeen years of friendship and love, left me with the heart, to cry. 1999, rae neisen creative
