For Caito (Boo)
by Candace Petrilli
Your eyes are cloudy, you will not eat, Despite my coaxing with every treat. Instead you emit a plaintive cry, Because I cannot yet say good bye Your fur is dull, your bones protrude you want nothing now, except solitude. Each night you find me and on my pillow lie You no longer purr, but I hear you sigh. I want to take away your pain, cure what ails you, make you well again. Only I cannot, and your time draws near, And so I weep, with endless tears. My heart is breaking to see you this way Your sad little face wasting away. I wont let you suffer, my sweet little cat And I pray for the courage, to do just that. Only, stay with me for just a while Give me please one more siamese smile. Hold fast my soul for this last stand and softly I'll take you to that distant land It wont be forever, again we'll meet You a kitten again in stocking feet. Playing shadow boxing at every chance your every leap, a graceful dance. My weary travelor, I leave you this song, For this your last journey, to help you along. Be safe, be well, my beloved friend, Until that time we meet again.
