Ode to Buffoon
by Marytherese Ryan
Ode to Buffoon You were my California cat My circus cat How you loved to spin in a laundry basket To knead your blue blanket To squint your beautiful green eyes up at me And purr You were with me through the beginnings and endings Of many relationships You could not bear another move Nervous Nelly, licking your fur off your Belly Whiskers turned white Friendly spots on the door jambs You loved to sleep with me My pretty kitty My chubba-wubba-bubba-boon The softest fur, striated and speckled Rarely did you meow, just an occasional squeak They thought you were a boy when I adopted you I made sure they knew you were a girl, in the end Gentle cat, patient with the comings and goings of several pets Sweet cat, loved by Mom, Dad and Erin And most of all by Me. I will remember you, my faithful cat No more pain You are my angel cat Eat your fill in the Elysian Fields You so loved the sun and the grass My beautiful California cat Buffoon Ryan 9/25/02
