This is just a story about "My Sally" I am member of Fila Rescue Inc. www.filarescue.org I wasnt a member at the time, I just knew the Fila was right for me. I started making calls, and emails to the rescue, I wanted one. Sally became available, at 12 wks old 45lbs. Its not very often you get to rescue a puppy of that age from any rescues. I didnt know how lucky I was at that point. I just knew she was right for me. so on Nov. 2000 ...I went and rented a car to go on a 12hr drive to pick her up, she was staying at a shelter waiting for me. I WILL NEVER FORGET the day I arrived and they brought her out to me... she came running out and skidded on the slippery floor with her flapping ears (holding back some tears) and..... she ran right up to me giving me kisses, and sat right on top of me. I knew then this was the one. I took her home and she was like a child to me. she began growing and growing, and it never stopped, Aprox Jan 2002 Sally had gotten into the garbage (MY Garbage was like DISNEYLAND to her) and had eaten something wich had made her very Ill. I called her vet, freaking out, he wasnt in. I called another Vet, told him she had literally passed out, and I got her back. She let her bladder and had a movement while laying on the floor. and I thought that was the end.
I layed down next to her, and she pulled her head up and started nosing me with her soft wet nose. I was frantically in tears. Sally came back. I got her to a strange vet who had told me she needed a new kidney, took her home and got ahold of her vet. He told me, she ate something, it didnt agree with her, and to tuck her in and let her relax for the next 24 hrs. after that she was back to herself. I ALWAYS told everyone, the worst fear I had was loosing My Sally.
On August.23,2004 it was the saddest day of my life yet. I was going about my day as usual. Went to see my Doc, and came walking in the door. Sally was eating and started coughing, we thought she ate to fast and had something caught in her throat. so Mom put her outside. Mom didnt hear her, and this happened a good bit, because Sally liked to Inhale her food. So I come walking through the back gate and there was Sally laying on the patio, weezing, and trien to breath. I tried everything I knew, called everyone, even called 911 wich Im sure they thought I was crazy. My Father, my sister and the neighbor kid gave her CPR for 2 hours, and I sat on the ground with her head on my lap. I Was so frantic, I threw up., and she looked at me, but as soon as they would take a 2 sec break, she stopped breathing, and her heart stopped. Then she let herself go again...I knew it was the end, I closed her eyes and started making arrangments with the funeral home (Yes I know I must be insane) I still have her remains, and they stay in my bedroom, I am going to bury her near my Gram. ( they loved each other) The Funeral home, and the Vet both called me and gave me there sympathy, and both told me as well as the creamatory in Pittsburgh Pa that Sallys weight was a record for them, 35 inches tall and 215lbs.
I miss you Sal, and I know you are sitting right here with me.
I will love you forever, and Im sure our new Fila Conan, knows you are here . ;-) BUT DONT worry, I still have your FAVORITE Afghan Gram made for you, Nothing or Noone will take it away from me and also our Memmories.
