FarewellSweet Friend
by Carolyn Schulze
I remember how you used to let Shelby pile sad on your head in the sandbox, you would stay with her the whole time she was in there. You would sit still like a statue as tonot upset her by having ta=hat sand fall off. You both were two and you showed such wisdom for a young dog. I remember how you would go for walks around the farm with that tiny string through your collar that Shelby had looped over your head so loose that you were so careful not to step on, for hours you two would go on your big "adventure".I watched you both and was so proud that you were our dog. I remember how you never barked at anyone who came to the house, you would walk up wagging your tail and greet them with your smiling eyes. I remember how you loved the farm and when we moved to the new farm you adopted the farm kittys, you would curl yourself around them and sleep so soundly, always the protector. I remember how that one winter I made the kids that "snow couch" and how you slept on it during the day. I remember how we tried to get you to stay in the house with us, but you were too polite and wouldn't rest, always standding up when someone moved to not be in the way(even when you weren't) I remember how when we moved to town and you had to be tied up how patient you were waiting for your walks and going out in the country with dad in the truck. I remember how you would fall asleep on my knee when I brushed you. I remember how you would greet all of us upon returning home with that wooo ruuu ruuu wuuooo talk that was so sweet. I remember how you loved to travell in a vehicle you were at peace ridding in one. I remember how you would get up on the trampoline with the kids. I remember how you would go down the slide with them, just because they asked you too. I remember how you would wrestle with dad in the cool lawn grass after work. I remember how much you loved ice cream. I remember when you would dig a hole big enough for you to fit in going after some smell. I remember how you would tangle yourself up in your rope just so we would come and untangle you. I remember when we went camping and how you slept just outside the tent under the awning, you made us feel safe. I remember how your tail would whack us in the legs because you were so happy. I remember how we walked in the rain for hours looking for Pooky the day after we moved. I remember how you would let the kids hang on you and always always put up with them while they were fighting over you. I remember how it made your day to go to the lake , swimming was a treat for you, you loved the water. I remember how you liked to lick,it tickeled and we asked you to stop but you wouldn't. I remember how you had unlimited patience with everything. I remember how soft and silky your fur was and it shone like sunshine reflecting on water. I remember how when you were off you rope how you would take a quick tour and always came home. I remember the way you could hear Dad's truck 10 min before he would drive in the yard. I remember how sad you were when we gave your daughter away, for that I'm sorry you were so happy when we had Sachie. I'm sorry you never got to go back to the farm, and for the times we slept in in the winter and you had to hold it before we let you out. I remember how you never had an accident you were so polite and you had the biggest heart of gold. I have may more memories but my eyes cloud with tears, and it is hard to see the keys my friend Farewell....... You were a true friend and our lives were richer for knowing you and having you to love. You never wanted anything but our love,My heart brakes because your time here with us is over. Our Love for you is never ending, and we will find you on the other side dear friend.Sweet dreams Spudgie dog!!!
