Pitty - My Mate
by karen bellamy
I lost my friend on the 4th of January 2005 Pitty - My Mate............. He had an attitude the size of a man - he made me laugh & cry. He thought he was invincible. He was the boss!............ He was the antisocial one who played by himself in the aviary when his siblings were playing with eachother. Big ball of fluff!........... His first christmas he wreaked the tree, making holes in it & chewing the decorations - hitting me when I got too close! What a clown!............. Cats came & went - he attitude grew. I'd often have to chase him off the middle of the road where he lay sprawled out playing chicken. I got angry, he wondered what all the fuss was about. Tough guy!............... Many times he'd go missing, I would search the streets, ring the SPCA, ring the vets. He'd finally make his way home after being locked by mistake in someones shed - not once but 4 times. Always too damn nosey! I'd always forgive him, I was happy to see him. I'd wipe the tears, tell him off, give him a hug & mumble - "You Prick!"................. It took him 2 weeks to settle when we moved, in the end it was like he had been here a lifetime....I could tell he loved it! He'd lay with the chooks, rub against the lambs while they nuzzled him & chewed his ears & sit in the paddock with the cows................. Early morning he'd be off. Wander up to the hayshed & watch the swallows, visit the chooks, say hi to the sheep & sleep in the roof of the garage. What a life! Ol' farm cat!..................... He'd follow me while I'd feed the animals & the last thing at night to feed the dog. He'd sit & watch me, race me back, wait for me to turn the lights off then we would curl up in bed together, him between my legs. You heavy lump!.................... He was the only cat I had seen sleep with his front legs sprawled out wide either side of his head, it looked so uncomfortable but he looked so relaxed. What a nut!................... We would play hide & seek, he thought if his head was hidden you couldn't see him, what a laugh, we'd chase eachother around the house. Always full of fun!................. He knew when I had bought cat biscuits, sitting beside them & meowing until someone grabbed them out for him. I swear he knew the colour of the bag they were in. You smartass!............. We had fun together you & I, you were my best friend, my pal, my mate. I loved you & your larger than life attitude. You will be missed! It won't be the same without you, but you know that! I'll miss our cuddles, our talks, our walks in the paddocks - I'll miss it all........... There will never be another you............. Boy - you were one of a kind!............. Pitty my mate..... Always
