On April 29, 2004, at 6 in the evening, our morgan gelding Joe colicked, we kept him alive somehow through the night, but by the morning we knew that the possibility of him surviving was slim to none. The vet did one last test to see if he could figure out what was wrong, and found out that Joe had massive internal bleeding, and there was nothing else we could do. Even if we didn't put him dowm, he would be dead in a few hours. So at 9:30 on April 30, 2004, the vet injected Joe with the medication, to put him to sleep. Joe was an estimated 35 years old when he was put down, and until that day he had never been sick a day in his life. He was always the healthiest horse, and even at 35, was jumping and barrel racing still. He was owned by friends of the family for many years before we bought him about 4 years ago. He was always there for me, when I needed a shoulder to cry on, and he carried my dad on long trail rides with me and our other horse. I miss him always, and hope to be able to see him again some day.
