Memories of Bo
For our precious Bo -

From the day we brought you home, you brought so much love and joy into our lives. You first had to stay within the "Bermuda Triangle," and you would leak with joy and excitement when we came home or when you saw a friend or neighbor. Then you graduated to the family room. We gated it off and always wondered how you escaped. Turned out that your fur was thick but you could easily squeeze through the gate and run around the house. Eventually you outgrew some of your puppy habits like leaking, and you had free rein of the whole house! For your first trip, we went to Pismo Beach - it was your first time seeing the ocean! You played in the water, ran around the beach, and went to Dinosaur Caves Park. Our little Bo had seen the ocean, and he had to see snow, too. So we went to Big Bear, and you got to play in the snow. You walked around the town and saw the lake. This is where I learned how to ski, and it's where you first saw snow, too. A few months later, when Covid happened, I got to come home and spend all my time with you - our whole family was together. We went on lots of car rides during the pandemic, and you got to see all around LA. We went on late night drives down Mulholland through the hills, and drove PCH to Point Mugu. We watched 4th of July Fireworks from the viewpoints on Mulholland Dr. Our first trip during the pandemic was to Genoa, NV - one of the many, many countries you visited! We drove to Lake Tahoe and you stuck your head out the window, breathing in the fresh lake air, your fur blowing in the wind. We continued our Covid Car Rides when we got back - from Griffith Park, to Palos Verdes, you saw all of LA. You saw all of California, too, when we drove up PCH along the coast, from home, to Pismo Beach, to Big Sur, to Carmel and Bixby Bridge, all the way to Napa. From Napa, we went to San Francisco, and you got to see Mom's favorite city, too. We visited Mom's apartment in Pacifica, and you got to run around Fort Funston. Bo, you crossed the Golden Gate Bridge! That's not something a lot of humans, or dogs, do in their lives, and you did it! We are so proud of you. People cheered you on the whole way across, from San Francisco to Marin County. Such a brave little dog. Our next trip was to San Diego, and you got to see Petco Park. You'd help us cook Thanksgiving turkey, your little nose sniffing the air, on high alert for any crumbs dropped. You used your Paw Patrol investigation skills to help us complete a scavenger hunt through Downtown LA. We went to Monterey Bay, and you and Mom would take walks on the beach. We drove the 17 Mile Drive and you ran around Pebble Beach. We joked that you had a house there. Me, you, and Mom went to the beach again and watched you run around on the sand, your little paw prints in the wet sand were the cutest. On every tip, I begged you and hoped you would sleep on my bed. One time on this trip, you did jump onto my bed and fall asleep. You got into bed before me, and you stretched out and fell asleep horizontally, taking up all the space on the bed. I slept curled up on one end of the bed so that you wouldn't move and would sleep with me. And that's ok - anything for you, Bo. Our next trip was to Lake Arrowhead; you walked around the town and the lake and fed the ducks with us. We went to Mammoth. You stargazed with us, hiked around the lake, walked around the village, and rode the gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain. To celebrate your 4th birthday, Mom took you to the Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run in Pasadena, where you got a medal and got to meet lots of other dogs and make lots of new friends. We went to Solvang after Christmas that year, and you visited wineries and saw the Danish architecture. Your next trip was to Yosemite - your first national park! You saw snow again and stuck your head out the car window, taking in the winter landscape. You saw Half Dome and walked around Camp Curry. I remember you sitting on Dad's lap during the drive home. Every time we got home, I would announce to the neighborhood and to the house, "Bo's home!" You, Mom, and Dad went to Temecula and lounged in your guys' corner room and on the patio and went to wineries. We all went to Huntington Beach - we picked this place because we wanted to take you to the dog beach there. You took lots of walks on the dog beach, sunbathed, and played with other dogs. For your birthday, we went to Joshua Tree National Park. You got to see the Joshua Trees, climb on top of the rock formations, watch the sunset, stargaze, and walk around Pioneertown. For Christmas, you won the Best Dog in 2024 Award, and you brought us to Palm Springs. We hiked, explored town, and lounged on our private patio.

In between all the trips, we celebrated every birthday and holiday. You hunted for Easter Eggs and got an ornament on the tree every Christmas. We hiked Runyon Canyon all the time. You knew the path and said hi to all the other dogs hiking. We had our routine, too: after our hike, I'd get a smoothie and we'd sit in the car while you ate your cookies. You loved enjoying the cool air conditioning after a hike.

We will always remember how you'd greet us when someone came home, jumping up and down and bringing us your porcupine. How you'd take attendance and herd your family. You'd climb onto the dashboard when someone got out of the car to watch for them. How you'd tilt your head when we spoke to you. How you'd stick your head out the window in the car - you were a flying dog. You loved going to Starbucks and getting a pup cup. How you'd sit with one leg sticking out, and you'd lay with your head between your front paws. How you'd bury your head in the couch cushions or on the bed. You always knew when someone opened your cupboard, and you'd immediately run over to see what they were doing in your drawers.

Bo, you are so loved, forever. Thank you for all of the joy you've brought us. Affectionate, energetic, friendly, intelligent, loving, and protective, you are the best dog, not just in 2024, but forever. We love you.
