We lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon our knee
And shared her silent thoughts with us.
She'll come no longer to our call
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than our own
Has called her to her golden throne.
Although our eyes are filled with tears
We thank her for the happy years
She let her spend down here with us
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for us to go
And join her there, this much we know
We shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet us with a bark.
