Let me tell you about our dog Moose. Shortly, after moving to Texas at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, my two children and I drove two hours to East Texas to meet a rancher and breeder of Anatolian shepherds who had told us her shepherds were used as service dogs for several families. While he didn't end up being certified as a service dog, he became better than a service dog as our true friend and guardian of our mental health and home. Out of 20 pups, moose made his way through the chaos and walked right up to the kids and chose us! The previous year we had been in Texas for my Air Force best friend's wake and another Friend had an Anatolian Shepherd, who comforted us from the moment we entered their house until the day we left grieving the loss of our hooman friend. It was then my kids, and I knew we needed a dog like this. Moose was that dog for us. He carried Matt's spirit animal name, Moose. Moose stayed by our side endlessly for 5 years! 5 years wasn't enough time with him, but we are grateful nonetheless! Our dearest Moose, You left us so suddenly without warning at our home at only five years old on November 29, 2025. This loss is still raw and painful. Our family was blessed having you as our guardian dog. While you didn't have goats or anything to guard on our property, you guarded us in more ways than just guarding the material things. You were our constant companion on the sofa next to our rooms and wherever we went, especially during traumas, ranging from the hospitalizations of my kids to my struggles as a veteran. I have faith that Matt Rossi my hooman best friend also taken too soon, is running with you across all the mountain ranges, hiking trails and allowing you to bark at all the deer and you're truly in heaven! Love from your family! |
