Memories of Peppy Pekes
Peppy - you left us so unexpectedly that day in 2019 - a bad reaction to a medication during surgery and they couldn't save you. I was there with you at the end as they tried so hard and I talked to you and told you we were doing our best, but we had to let you go. I didn't know about this wonderful Memorial then and I never grieved properly for you. Now I have the chance to share what a very special dog you were.
Sara and Corey rescued you from a bad situation in Tennessee and shared pictures of you on Facebook. I knew right away that you would fit into our home and so I adopted you in 2012 - my second dog from Country K9 Rescue. Sara and Corey kept in touch - they loved you too. When you came to our home, it was clear that you could get along just fine with Daisy and Nellie. We all went for walks together and you carried your little hedgehog in your mouth for about half the walk, then I would put him in my pocket!
When Shylie joined us in 2014, you had a little playmate your own size - I have a cute video of the two of you wrestling in the kitchen!
You were an independent little guy - you would lay in your bed on the back porch and watch the squirrels or people walking by. You never minded bad weather - my long-haired dog who thought rain and snow were just fine! In the house, you were content to curl up in your little green bed in the living room while we watched TV. Every so often you would come over and gently put your paws up on my leg for a quick pat or cuddle and then you would go back to your bed. You loved to go to doggie daycare too - you didn't play too much with other dogs but you loved all the people. They would send me videos of you sometimes because you were so cute and such a good boy.
You and Nellie became good friends even though she was more than twice your size. The two of you would escape from the yard by digging under the fence and go exploring all over the neighborhood. During the winter of 2015 when we had so much snow, the two of you climbed the snow drifts and over the fence to head off on an adventure! One day I had to track two sets of paw prints through the snow to find you! But you both always made it home safely.
Last Saturday, Nellie came to join you at the Rainbow Bridge - I bet you were so glad to see her again! Daisy came there just 2 years after you went so now the three of you are back together again. I put your hedgehog in your Memorial Garden so you can play with him again. This year I added a new dog to our pack - a little Beagle mix named Pumpkin. I know you and she would have been good friends! I miss you all so much and I know that someday we will all be together again. In the meantime, run and play and be happy forever - I will never forget you.
Hi again my very special boy! I think about you often and miss you so much. You had such a special personality - independent, loving, calm even shen you made your pig noises! I miss you every day and will always love you.
