Memories of TAZ
Today is just about one month since our Taz is gone. I thought it would be good to share some memories of Taz.
Our relationship started by viewing a picture on the internet of this little guy up for adoption. . He was too cute to pass up. We got in touch with his owner and made arrangements for a visit. From the moment we met, my husband and I felt a bond with him. He came up to us and showered us with kisses. Taz was kept in a room all day and then spent a little time with his owner. He was never walked, never had any toys and was not socialized nor was he house trained. He was not what we had planned to adopt. But how could we not think about adopting him after our first meeting. Well adopt we did. Taz was frightened on the car ride to our home. But after getting there and letting him explore our backyard I think he relaxed a bit. In fact he did his business immediately and was house trained within days. From that point on he learned quickly. He was walked every day and loved meeting and greeting people on his walks. He absolutely came to love car rides, in fact you couldn't say the word "car" without getting a reaction from him. I was an advocate for residents in long term care facilities. The facility I was assigned to had pet visit day. When the director saw a picture of Taz, she indicated that he would be welcome. So with a letter from the vet that he was in good health Taz began his weekly visits to the facility. He would greet the receptionist and from there work his way to the recreation room when residents gathered. They would be seated around a long table and he would go each resident to either give a kiss or receive a pat. He also was allowed to visit residents in their rooms. On one occasion we visited a room where the resident didn't speak or respond. With the permission of the staff, we placed him on the bed. He began licking the patient from the hand up to the neck. Well the next thing we knew the patient was laughing. It was the first reaction from the patient since arrival. The whole staff came running to see what was happening. From that time on, it was the first place that Taz went to. We relocated from NJ to Fl so Taz had his first plane ride to visit our new home. He took his first auto trip from NJ to Fl and stayed in hotels. He adjusted to Fl and his new home very well. He made many new friends on his daily walks. He always greeted everyone and made them all smile. He made us happy, always made us laugh and smile. He was a comfort in times of distress and my buddy. I am always looking for him. My husband and I miss his greetings, his excitement and his unfailing love. He was our sunshine everyday. We are so grateful that we got to have our little Taz in our lives.
