A friend of mine died today. His owners did not take very good care of him. He became quite sick, too sick for the treatments to do any good. His heart and lungs were just too far gone. He had to stay at the vet's for several days, either to get better or to die. His owners never came to visit. Today, they decided to euthanize him. They did not want to spend money on a dog that would never be 100% better. They called to give their permission to euthanize and bury him, and we were to send them the bill. They never came in to say goodbye. They did not even sound sad. I held him while he died. His tail wagged the whole time, until the moment it stopped for good. Though I mourn his death, I am glad to know that he sleeps in heavenly peace. I just wish I could understand why such a loving dog had to belong with owners who did not seem to care.
