I am so grateful I found your site. It has been a great source of comfort and support for me the last 3 days. My husband and I had to make the most difficult decision of our lives last Tuesday. Our 9 year old yellow lab mix, Honey, injured herself running and she was paralyzed in her back legs. After 4 days under emergency care she came home and we realized that her quality of life was severely compromised. There was not much hope that she would ever have any quality of life as she was not even able to get up to get water or go to the bathroom and every time we tried to maneuver her she was in extreme pain. For a dog who could run like the wind, this "life" for her was no option. Our vet came out to the house for us and sent our Honey to Rainbows Bridge. We know she is there with her brother. Cody, an 8 year old black lab mix, waiting for us. We lost Cody 2 years ago.
I feel that I had a "sign" of the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday morning, before Honey went there. I never had heard of the Rainbow Bridge until the day after Honey's departure. On Tuesday, I went to get some supplies for Honey to try to help her be more comfortable, and the store I wanted to go to was not open yet. I walked down to the end of the shopping plaza and when I looked to the West, I saw the most beautiful rainbow!! I hadn't seen a rainbow in a very long time. We had had a storm earlier and the sky was dark against the rainbow which made colors so much more vibrant. At the time I saw it I took it as a sign of hope and asked God for guidance on what to do. I now know that it was a sign of comfort!
My husband and I will move slowly forward, never forgetting our babies waiting for us. We have another Fur Baby here with us. She is our "original " model and she is 12 years old. No doubt, she will be spoiled rotten.
Again, Thank you for your site! Rainbows have always had a special meaning to me and now even more so.
Sincerely,
Laura and Greg
