My Forever Friend
My she-pup, my friend -
till the very end.
It was 16 years and you grew old -
now this house feels so cold.
You came in my life the same way
you left - in my arms and in my heart -
but even your leaving can't tear us apart.
I'll hold onto the memories of you and me -
for that is the way it was meant to be.
Remember the rides on my lap in the car -
I know you are dancing once again where you are.
Remember the licks to warm my feet -
no one ever will compete.
Like my shadow you were always there -
not a moment when by when I didn't care.
I will always be greatful that you waited for me -
letting you go was hard to do, but
I knew in my heart it had to be.
So long for now my she-pup, my friend -
for I know in my heart this is not the end.
Always in my heart - till we meet again.
