The measure of my life is locked within your heart.
Years of favorite memories which never will depart.
Before you really knew me, a very long time ago,
It was fate our paths would cross, little did we know.
You winced of the tale of the young bucking horse,
who sent its rider flying to the ground with such force.
But soon this black mare's life changed its course.
I became a member of the Albany Police Force.
Those days were good, they taught me much.
But still I longed for that one special touch.
Then you came along so meek and so shy,
We became inseparable, you and I.
Spending hours together, I soon gained your trust.
You realized it was time, you knew you must.
As we walked around at a slow pace around the ring,
You knew that what we had, was the best of everything.
One day we made new friends, named Michelle and Chick.
We got to know them and their ways real quick.
Thus began our adventures of trail riding fun.
Always hearing you say, "RooRoo, walk, don't run."
Remember how Micelle and Chick would hide down the path?
I'd prance with excitement just to hear you laugh.
And that parade we were in, you shivered so.
It wasn't my idea; it was you who wanted to go.
I do want to apologize for that one scary day,
When we met that Humvee, I should have jumped the other way.
I walked and I trotted until the day had come,
You decided it was time to try to canter some.
Your knees were shaking as you held on tight,
Your heart beat fast and your knuckles were white.
But after your ride had come to an end,
You were still in the saddle, atop your old friend.
Now, we can dream of memories of sweet days gone by.
Coke, fries, and peppermints on which I would rely.
In return I gave you kisses and soft licks of love,
When you want to remember, those are the things to think of.
Eventually with time, I needed a rest,
My next contribution was truly the best.
You planned and you planned to be there that day.
but when it was time, I could not delay.
I'm sorry you weren't there to witness the birth,
after all remember, it was only my first.
Oh, we had such fun, my Chance and me.
He reminded me alot of how I use to be.
Memories of all our times to the end,
Baths, treats, and snugglings, my friend.
I'll never leave you completely, for you see.
Just open that heart of memories for me.
And if you should be feeling lonely at night,
revisit all your memories of Ropers Starlight.
