My sweet little Mittens
by Debbie Butz
In 1981, my then boyfriend and myself went into a pet shop on a whim...we looked around and there in a cage a little calico kitten caught our eyes...then captured our hearts - we left that pet store with you in our arms, giggling and trying to think of a name. Oh look...your cute white paws against those black and tan legs..they look like little mittens...Mittens..that is her name! You went grocery shopping with us, with your tail hanging out the bottom of daddys jacket..when we went for a car ride..you came too and sat in the back window. Daddy had you Monday-Friday...I got you Friday night through Sunday night...joint custody! Then in 82 we became a family under one roof...and our lives entwined so nicely! We loved our special time together..didn't we..playing fetch the bottle cap..rubbing your belly...you sneaking in bed with us, under the covers..waking us up with your tongue to let us know..its time to feed you! Then we brought you home a sister, Bootsie...you chased her around so! But you learned how special she was..you both became so close..running around and playing..cleaning each other..leaping over the chair! Oh how the two of you made us laugh! Then as the children came..you two were so good to them..playing with them..never hissing or biting when they lovingly held you by the neck! You two were so good and loyal..so sweet of a dispostion you both had. We lost our little Bootsie 13 years later..and you cried and walked around the house looking for her for three years. We brought home Bunkie..and that little one chased you around...bothered you when you slept..but she loved you so...and then Bunkies babies came..Chuck,Gus and Mo..and they loved you so..you were their "grandma" they were gentle and kind to you! But, you were now 17 1/2 years old...and you slept alot..but when you came out..you loved us so..we knew..you purred for us so! We were better because you were in our lives...we loved you so! How appropriate our little love died in our bed..between daddy and mommy on February 14, 1999...you died on the day of love because you were a "Love". We miss you so, our little angel..we will remember you always...and we know that when our time comes...you will be waiting for us to love and play and be together again with your sister Bootsie. You two have fun being together again...I see you laying in the glorious sun together..chasing butterflies..climbing trees...watching over us..and feeling our love going up to you both! God take care of our little angels while we are apart..and thank you for sharing them with us!
