Roper's Goodbye
by Anne Campbell
Ropers Goodbye Please dont cry. Dont shed any tears. Weve had so many happy wonderful years. When I was born 21 years ago I was indeed lucky to have been loved so. My purpose and talent was soon to be found. I became the proudest police horse around. Remember how calmy I stood with head held high. We worked as a team, you and I. And when our tour of duty was at an end, It was with you, I would stay, good friend. Soon the little one grew up and needed a mount, It was, no doubt, on me you could count. Endless hours of fun and friendship we shared, You made my life special, because you cared. Then after time, the years had taken their toll, I offered you my greatest gift, my little foal. He was a puny little thing, Ill admit, but I wasnt worried, not the least little bit. I knew youd lavish him with the same love and care You had given to me, your ole faithful black mare. Together, you and I , raised our Chance up strong, My leagacy to you, my last hoorah theme song. So lucky was I to have been there with you. There is not one moment that I would undo. As I slipped away quietly, I knew you were near. I felt your presence, I sensed your fear. But I had to go, dont you see. It was time and the best thing for me. Now, I am running as fast and as far as I care. with my mane flying high and my tail in the air. Grazing in green pastures, to which there is no end. Always thinking of you, my beloved friend.
