Black Cats & Friday the 13th
by Jance Coville
Ten years ago, around Halloween, we got a black "tuxedo" kitten, when you petted her, she would arch her back, so we called her Halloween cat, Hallie for short. Never a bother, pretty patient for a cat, so tolerant of all the dogs we ever had. Two years ago, she made the move with us to "the farm" and instantly took to be a barn cat, a good mouser, but with her same loving personality. For some reason this evening, she had reason to go out front and went across the road. Friday the 13th and a black cat crossing someone's path ended in a sudden death of our beloved "pretty girl", they never even stopped, and I just hope they have bad luck forever. Our puppy saw it from the screen door and yelped, we went to investigate and found her laying in the road, gone already to the bridge. She will be laid to rest next to her dog brother Chance, who the road took from us a year and a half ago. We will be moving soon to get away from the road. God bless you Hallie, play with Chance until we see y'all again. Mommy and (especially) your Daddy love you so much and will miss you.
