Our Dog Boomer
by Lindsay Curran
Boomer was the greatest dog.He was a large Golden Retriever. We had him from when he was only 5 weeks old.Boomer sure was a sweetie.Even at age 12 he still played and acted just like a pup.You could do anything to him,and he wouldn't even care.He was so loving and always gentle. He loved my mom,Renee.Where ever she went around the house, there he was right behind her.He even slept on her bed at night. He was fine until one day.My mom was home with him, when he began getting sick. She thought maybe he just wasn't feeling well. Then next day while she was at work,my dad and I had to go check on him.We brought him to the vet to see what was wrong. After almost a week in the hospital, the vets still could not find what was wrong. After many tests they found that he had fluid in his chest and his abdomen.Which led them to believe he had cancer. We had to make the hardest decision of our lives, which was to put Boomer to sleep. The day we went to do this,he was being walked outside. We didn't think he looked bad at all,and my mom just couldn't do it.We took Boomer home that day.Everyone was so happy because we all wanted him to be home and comfortable with his family. He began to do better,he was eating which he hadn't been doing before, and he was still weak but seemed to be getting his strength back. But unfortunately,a few days later,he went right back to being sick.We took him to another vet for a second opinion. This vet said that since his eyes looked yellow,he had liver cancer. We couldn't put Boomer through any more,he had already suffered enough and he was an old guy.And the way he kept looking at us,made us realize that we didn't want to see him sick, and it was just his time to go.We are beginning to get use to not having Boomer around. There are no more tears, but each and every day, someone mentions a good memory of Boomer. We will always remember him,we loved him his whole life all 12 years of it,and no dog will ever be able to replace Boomer.
