TANNER
There is a large hole in my heart
where once you resided,
and that emptiness feels inconsolable.
There are still footprints in the snow
where once you ran so exuberantly,
and yet with such grace and joy for life.
There is a large hole in my heart
once filled with your unconditional love,
and it aches every day no matter what I do.
Reminders of you are everywhere,
in the woods, on the beach, in our home
which no longer feels as warm
as when you lay in the sunlight by the door.
There is a large hole in my heart
for which I fear there is no cure,
but only to be filled forever
by the memory of you.
