Tiffany - she was my baby for 13.5 yrs., she slept with me I told her all my problems, nursed her through 2 strokes, twisted colon, pulled knee ligament. Carried her when she could not walk, although she weighed over 50 lbs. But, the love she returned was twofold. When I walked into the house after work, I had to give her a kiss before she got off the couch. When she got weak, we walked a half a block and that was all she could handle. It was my birthday and I had to put her to sleep. What pain it hurt so bad, worse than any other pain I had ever gone through. No more No more I said. NO MORE DOGS!
Only a week later, my mother was lonely, she wanted another one. So we went to the humane society. She found her "dream" dog - a Shepherd/Collie mix. I saw one I liked, but as I had said NO MORE DOGS! The next day we picked her up, named her Santana(Sandy), but she still wasn't my dog. We took her to the vet for the check-up. I told him that she was my mother's dog, but he mentioned something about my Tiffany teaching me how to love.
Six weeks later when we returned home from work - in a frenzy she jumped off the bed, caught her leg in the rug and broke her leg. We bundled her in the car and ran to the vets top speed, mom was crying. They said we had to leave her overnight, she would be quieter there.
As I stood outside that hospital, tears running down my face I realized - I could love another dog. My Tiffany had taught me that although it was a different dog, they are all loveable, can make you laugh and can make you cry.
Tiffany, I will always love you and miss you. I know Grandma and Grandpa are taking good care of you. I was afraid you'd be lonely, but I know that could never be with them.
