Our Sweet Baby
by Maylene & Bill Dingler
Roxie, our sweet baby, meant everything to us. She was so spoiled; however, she gave us MUCH love in return. As she aged, she wanted to be by our side every minute. She was either sitting in the chair with her "Daddy" or laying on the couch beside me. I cooked her dinner (mostly boiled chicken), cut it up and fed her every day at 3:00 p.m. When it would be getting near that time she would go to her placemat on the floor and just sit there and stare at me until I brought the plate and I sat down in the floor and fed her every bite. (Remember I did say she was spoiled). We planned all our vacations around places with motels that welcomed pets. On our trips she would lay on a pillow on my lap. Five months ago today, we came home from a trip and she was not feeling well so we took her to the vet and he was going to draw blood and while we were waiting for her in the waiting room she died on the table. We were in total shock. She hadn't seemed THAT ill. We have created a beautiful rose garden with bird baths, fountains, angels for her and today we placed some pink roses by her Angel and sat on the bench talking to her and finally (after 5 months) we could smile as we visualized her cocking her head to one side and listening to us. She didn't bark - she TALKED and we understood everyword. She really had us trained well and we LOVED every minute of it. My husband is diabetic and if he went into a "sugar low" during his sleep, Roxie would scratch the cover off of him and bark in his face until she got him up and then she would immediately lay back down and start snoring again. The Vet explained that away by saying she sensed the chemical changes in his body. She was so VERY special in so many ways and we miss her still very much and, Roxie, our sweet Baby, we will always LOVE YOU!!!Mommy and Daddy
