Abby's Love
by Susie Farrell
Abby's Love She came to our family a furry black ball. She was to be a family dog. But it was clear from the start that although we all loved her, Abby attached herself most to the boy. He was only nine then and the bond between the boy and his dog was strong from the start. They shared his waterbed, his meals, his summers with his dad. When he was sent to his room, Abby went too. The boy and Abby grew up together - and they both turned out just fine. When the boy grew into a young man and went away to college, it was clear that he missed Abby the most. And when he came home she had saved her biggest Abby smile for him. I am this boy's mother and the hardest thing I have ever done was to call him and tell him that his beloved Abby was gone. What I did not tell him was that my last whispered words to Abby were to tell her how much she was loved by all, but especially by her boy. And I told her that she was his most perfect friend and she will never be forgotten.
