I Wasn't There
by Kaitlin Fisher
It's been two years, since I lost my poor Cheepers. I know most people don't get attached to chickens, but I did. He was the nicest, tamest rooster I ever owned. He waited for you to feed him, or just to talk to him, hoping that stay with him for awhile. I got Cheepers from a local feedstore, when I saw running around in his pen I knew I had to have him. So I bought him, for $1.75. Pretty cheap if you ask me, but he turned out to be the best pet in the world. I brought him home and raised him in the house. When he learned to jump out of his box, I had to build him a pen out in the horse barn. When I had to turn around and walk back to the house, he jumped over the fence and ran chirping right behind me. I thought I would have to spend the night out in the barn. He was too young to die, he didn't even choose to die. He was killed, by dogs. They came into his pen one night and killed him. He was too young to die and didn't deserve to leave the world. He only lived to be three. It's been three years and will be four years this April. My baby left the world to go to Rainbow Bridge on April 19, 2001, a week after his third birtday. I wait for the day when I will see him again and when we will cross Rainbow Bridge together.
