Annie, my teacher
by Stephanie Garcia
Annie was my first dog I showed in 4H. We won in showmanship & obedience classes. I will never forget the first time my mom made me enter her in offlead obedience. I was so afraid Annie would run away. But she stayed right with me & had the judge smiling when we were finished wih our run. You see, Annie had this habit of looking up at me with her big old happy cocker grin & would slap the ground with her right front paw everytime she sat. It as as if she was saying "There! How was that? Did I do good?" The judges would always have a smile on their face as we left the ring. She taught me that anything can be achievd if you practice & try hard. I enjoyed taking her to nursing homes for pet therapy visits. She was always so happy & everyone loved her. I started a K9 Vest Fund in my area to buy bulletproof vests for police dogs. I've been at it for 3 years now & the fund has vested 28 dogs in 4 states. Annies was always by my side when I held our Heroes On Paws Dog Walks & she went on TV with me when I talked about my fund. It is my 4H Project & all my 4H Dog Club members are working to keep vesting police dogs. It is hard to keep doing this without Annie. I decided I can not give up. I feel like she is still by my side. I just want to hug her one more time.Thank you, Annie, for sharing my first dog shows, for teaching me what fun it was to share you with others, & for teaching me that I can make a difference in the world. I love you with all my heart & I miss you. I know you are now my angel & you still watch over me. You are my Hero On Paws!
