Patches
by Alisa Giroux
Patches was my brother's puppy. My mom got her for free from a lady in the neighborhood. She was a wild and crazy puppy once she was cured from the worms and fleas that she had. She used to like to sunbathe on top of the picnic table. She grew up to be a great dog. Patch liked to eat everything and it showed. She was also known as the living garbage disposal. (she was finally diagnosed with a thyroid problem. When I went to college she wouldn't eat unless I talked to her on the speaker phone. When I got married to Jeff, she had lovingly approved. She came to live with us and gave us such love. She was lonely when we went to work and started to get deppresed. Like a miracle, some neighbors down the street had rescued a pregnant cat. She had five beautiful kittens. The neighbor was showing off one of the kittens to us. This was the first kitty that our Patch had ever seen. It was like the long lost baby that she never had. Pathes wouldn't eat until she went on her nightly visit to make sure that "her" baby was o.k. When her baby was old enough, she picked him up and insisted on bringing him home. How could we refuse? She raised Sylvester to be a beautiful, loving kitty. Patches the pini Giroux became the protecter of all of the kitties we had rescued from that point on. God bless you Patch. You are missed and still our "puppy love". RIP
